Joker, the silent protagonist from the JRPG sensation Persona 5, was announced as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s first Challenger Pack DLC fighter during last year’s Game Awards, and fans have been excited for his arrival ever since. Details on Smash Ultimate’s Joker have been scarce since this announcement, outside of confirmation that he would arrive in April, but the image from Best Buy has potentially given a first look at how Joker will be rendered in game.

Of course, this is not an official confirmation of the design of Smash Ultimate’s Joker, and some fans have suggested that the image may be of an amiibo figure instead. However, others have pointed out that the lighting in the image is more indicative of a render, offering some credence to the idea that this is how the character will appear in the title.

Even if this ultimately is proven to be Joker’s render, the image obviously does not provide much in the way of detail on how this new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter will play. While it stands to reason that the weapon shown in the ad will be part of his attack arsenal, along with a potential ranged attack and summonable Personas, players will simply need to wait until they receive further word from Nintendo for a full understanding of what the character offers.

It remains to be seen how Joker will fit into the Smash Ultimate tier list, but it seems safe to assume that he will prove more powerful than Piranha Plant, another fighter that was brought to the game after its release. Regardless of his abilities or if this Joker render is real, many fans will certainly be happy just to have a new character to play with.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
