Super Nintendo World was originally set to open before the Japan Olympics, in part to benefit from the added global attention and tourism the country was set to receive. Many fans grew increasingly excited as images of Super Nintendo World were revealed but it appears that the coronavirus pandemic has negatively impacted the progress of the park. While many will not be surprised, fans will likely be disappointed that the park has been reportedly delayed yet again.

Although it has yet to be officially announced by Comcast who owns Universal Studios, several sources are claiming that the park is set to be delayed. This is not the first game-related company to be impacted by the current COVID-19 pandemic, and many will have foreseen delays. After all, with social distancing rules among other factors that the pandemic has impacted, it is not surprising that the park has gone over schedule. At the moment, it is unclear when the park will officially open and it may once again coincide with the delayed Tokyo Olympics.
It may make sense for the park to be delayed until a date that coincides with the Olympics as it could improve the financial return of the new section of Universal Studios. This could also allow the park to be finished with a surplus amount of time and could mean that Super Nintendo World is at its best when it is opened to the public. With the Tokyo Olympics delayed until the summer of 2021, the park may have plenty of time to be finished although some fans would like to see their favorite Nintendo characters in a theme park sooner.
Many will wait for the official announcement from Comcast before they begin planning trips to the highly anticipated Super Nintendo World. Yet despite the bad news, these delays have made it clear that there is an eager audience for a Nintendo themed world, and many will be keen to find out more information about the park when it does finally open its doors.
