As detailed by GameXplain, a user known as ClapTrap9 decided to switch things up by creating a level that has the look and feel of Super Mario Maker 2 inside of Sony’s LittleBigPlanet 3 on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. The level itself boots into the Super Mario World theme, complete with the music and title screen Nintendo Switch players have been playing for the past few days.

What’s truly special about this LittleBigPlanet 3 level however is that it is essentially a level creator inside of a level creator. ClapTrap9 has somehow created an interactive Mario level editor that LittleBigPlanet 3 users can use to create their own stage. Each element is completely functional and behaves as players would expect. Users can place blocks to make platforms, change the theme to things like snow or night, use bullet bills to fly across the screen, and much more. Even new tools from the recently released Nintendo game are available in this remake including an Angry Sun that can one hit kill the player as well as on/off switches that work exactly as expected.

As shown in the video, the player will experience a bit of lag when playing the created level but its still incredibly impressive and the closest thing that PlayStation fans are going to get to the real thing. In fact, that seems to be what drove ClapTrap9 to doing this in the first place as the description reveals that it is dedicated to those who can’t afford Super Mario Maker 2 or to those without a Nintendo Switch console.

Unlike the faux-LittleBigPlanet 3 version, Nintendo is facing a bit of controversy from fans over the previously undocumented course upload limit that exists inside of Super Mario Maker 2. While its predecessor allowed creators to increase their upload limit from 10 to 100 over time. The recently release Super Mario Maker 2 increases the starting limit to 32 initially, but does not offer a way to increase the total beyond that. While there are some who argue that it likely won’t impact most users, this restriction is likely going to impact dedicated and hardcore level designers.

Super Mario Maker 2 is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
