A number of cars were damaged on the evening of December 6 in Stowell Street in the city, just yards from St James’s Park – the home of Sunderland’s arch-rivals.
Both players were arrested yesterday and questioned before they were eventually let go on bail.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said:
Police are further analyzing the CCTV footage to fully assess the crime.
“It follows an investigation into damage caused to cars on Stowell Street in Newcastle city centre, which happened at about 10pm on Tuesday, December 6.”
A spokesman from Sunderland AFC refused to comment on the pair’s arrest.
